Looking for a walking tour in Europe without committing yourself to a week-long rambling marathon? Here is your chance to walk in one of the most varied, enchanting and beautiful regions in Europe.
Book a holiday at one of the holiday homes in the enchanting olive groves of Los Piedaos, a farm near the town of Orgiva.
You can design your own tour with an experienced guide who has lived and worked in the region for more than a decade. She will organise walks to suit your own personal ideas.
This perfect walking holiday destination lies at the heart of beautiful Andalucia. With its spectacular mountains and enchanting valleys, half way between Granada and the Costa Tropical on the Mediterranean, lies the valley of Las Alpujarras. It is one of the most inspiring and uplifting areas in the world, and a perfect place in which to walk and forget about the cares of the world. The area has been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO with its many rare species, and its skies are officially rated the cleanest in Europe.
The "gate way" to this enchanting region is the little market town of Orgiva, seen below with its backdrop of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Longer than 300 kilometres, Spain’s longest circular walking trial is now officially open. The Sulayr trail, which circles the Sierra Nevada, is divided into 19 stages and runs along traditional cattle driver’s paths at an average altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level. Crossing el Valle de Lecrín and la Alpujarra, the route takes its name from Arabic, meaning “from the mountain to the Sun.”
If you are not especially fit, don't worry, as the walks are geared to suit all levels of fitness. You can take an easier pace, stopping to take in the stunning scenery, take photographs, or have a picnic. You could visit O Sel Ling, the Buddhist retreat centre, walk down the beautiful Poqueira Valley, roam the hills of La Taha, or follow the ancient water channels of the extraordinary irrigation system that makes the valley so fertile.
